In fairness, 3D doesn't seem to be selling that well. HD is selling well, but, TBH, it's not fair to compare 3D and HD because anyone buying a TV pretty much such the first HD plasmas were launched has been effectively forced into buying an HD set as there are no competing technologies available. Even 3D sets do HD.

It may not be a gimmick, but equally it does not seem to be seen as necessary.
