Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Don't understand why so many seem to think that Virgin are pulling at the reigns on the BT Sport channels. These are BT's channels and it is they who will be pulling the strings and will be the ones who run the show on this one, NOT Virgin. BT will want to get as much as they can to finance their purchasing of the ESPN rights and the Premier League deal...and quite right too. As a commercial enterprise they are in the market to make money and nobody should be surprised at that. Virgin will be negotiating with BT to get the best deal for all its customers, which includes me, and of course themselves. It goes without saying that BT would have put the first figures on the table for Virgin to ponder over, and anyone who has negotiated contracts will know that the one with the bargaining power will start way to high. Virgin no doubt said NO to the first costs asked by BT.
For what its worth, I have no doubt that BT Sports will be on Virgin on the 1st August. It goes without saying really...but I will....some will shirk at the cost, will believe that Virgin should at least include BT owned ESPN in the XL package, but Virgin may not have any control over that, so all who are saying Virgin need to keep that in the XL package maybe being very blinkered.
Cost of taking the BT Sport channels may be prohibitive to some, and I'm sorry for that, but there are enough of us, yes I will be taking the channels being a footie nutter, to make it worthwhile for Virgin to carry the channels.
Not everyone will be happy, but C'est La Vie.
