I recklessly spent ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£10 on a copy of Sim City 4 yesterday and when I started running it my Sygate firewall warned that the program was trying to contact crl.microsoft.com. I said 'no', and this did not seem to cause any problems.

Anyway, what exactly is crl? A bit of googling suggested that it stood for certificate revocation list and that it might be something to do with updating the pki list, whatever that is. After this, the trail seemed to become extremely confusing, so I thought it might be better to ask here. So, what exactly does crl do and should I allow the program to access the MS site, or would it be better to get my firewall to permanently block access, or doesn't it make any difference what I do?
