The point I was trying to make is that Ecclestone knew well in adavnce the risks of selling the rights to SKY.

"The Formula 1 ringmaster said taking the championship off main stream television and onto pay-per-view would ruin the teams’ ability to attract sponsorship because of the size of its audience. “Sky is doing an incredible job but if you look at their audience figures they are nowhere. With these figures it would be almost impossible for teams to find sponsors. That would be suicidal."
It's not like the SKY / BBC deal was the only one on the table.

"FORMULA 1 bosses could have kept Grand Prix racing on terrestrial TV but they *apparently turned down a £45million-a-year bid by Channel 4. Leaked documents show the broadcaster was desperate for the motor racing to remain free to viewers and matched a proposal *by BSkyB."
It's all very well Ecclestone coming out suggesting what SKY should do to boost viewing figures however it's not really his place. It's a case of the tail trying to wag the dog. It's all well he's coming out with the type of quotes F1 fans without SKY want to hear, but what is he planning to do about it? I don't see him offering anything at all towards making sure the content is distributed as wide as possible.
If he was so concerned about the fans missing out, the deal with SKY should never have been agreed.
