What do we mean by 'do it' exactly?

if you can't 'do it' what is supposed to happen?
are you supposed to die?

of course people can do it. some have no choice.
you might get ill. you may end up in hospital, you might be made homeless. but you can do it.

unless you die from doing it. then you have done it.
