If you don't want to buy the appropriate cable to connect your phone to the EXT socket on the fax machine, then you need to buy a socket doubler to allow you to connect both your phone and your fax to the LINE input on your filter. The only thing that should ever be connected to the DSL input on your filter is your ADSL broadband modem/router, and your ADSL modem/router should always and only be connected to the DSL input of a filter.

Google "telephone socket splitter" and take your pick.
