The problem with the away goal rule is two fold. First of all it is wrong that the away team gets an extra half an hour to score but it's also slightly absurd that the prospect of a 0 - 0 result followed by a 1 - 1 result is enough to send a team though. It creates bizarre tactics and notions for the following leg, especially when you consider that playing the second leg at home is meant to be an advantage.
I always want to play the second leg away because then you know where you stand and away goals advantage you. If Arsenal scored one more the other day then we'ld have at least forced extra time and another goal still would have killed the tie despite only being 1 goal up.
