The government can reduce the debt in two ways. Decrease expenditure (which is what they are trying) or increase income. This is a concept that, frankly, seems to escape the Tories, as well as the Liberal Democrats.

The government could of course increase taxes back to 22% so the higher earners pay more and i'm sure many in the government wish they had done when they took office ,it would have been a lot less painful for a lot of people .Of course many of the cuts and changes to welfare would still be needed but tax intake would have been higher
