He probably had a right to expect the Chelsea fans to get behind the team whilst he is there. The level of vitriol directed at him is out of line. Then against BenĂ*tez has always attracted a special kind of hatred from some corners of England for quite benign reasons.

It's not his fault the previous manager was sacked. They're directing anger that should be for Abramovich at BenĂ*tez because they dare not provoke him. Also BenĂ*tez didn't slag them off that much, he made a little jibe, and so what if he worked for Liverpool. The rate at which Chelsea are going though managers means they probably should get used to it.
