In which case they could make a lockable snap out drive and provide VM techs with the key. The method was intended to be a quick fix to avoid losing recorded content when a box fails.
If anyone was that determined to share / swap drives they could just open up the box and remove it.

Yes, I did mean the Sky channels. Premium content providers would be more concerned about this unlikely form of programme sharing than most broadcasters.

The point was to make it easier for a VM tech to transfer the drive from a faulty box to a replacement box. An alternative to taking the whole thing away resulting in lost recordings.
