No need to tell Virgin Media anything as I will not be put into a new contract when I get my free upgrade and nor will anyone else as it is a free upgrade which does not affect your contract or commitment date, if you are out of contract such as myself and I wanted to go to BT Infinity at the end of July then I can cancel as normal because I have not recommitted to anything.
Now if anyone has been put into contract then that is illegal and can easily be reversed unless of course they actually rang up and requested an upgrade which is not a free upgrade but a customer request.
Going by the OP above they have just informed him of the upgrade nothing more and they can cancel at any time giving the statutory 30 days notice because the upgrade if not requested is free as it does state on your Myvirginmedia page again as per this link below which copied from that page, go on login and be amazed.

As above you should not be requesting an upgrade and to put you in contract is wrong so ring back and cancel as you have 7 days in order to do so then you will get the upgrade for free, never ring for a free upgrade as some fool will do as above.
