In some defence of the BBC, they do try and hold themselves to account. If you watched Newsnight last night you had the rather odd spectacle of Newsnight tearing into itself and bring people onto the program to lay into it.

The Sun and News of the World barely mentioned it. News of the World even went as far as tearing into The Guardian after the initial allegations and calling them liars when they knew it was the truth. As bad as the BBC have messed up recently they do have considerably higher standards than NOTW.
