That isn't a correct comparison. Everyone that bought the same 'cake' at the same time as you are getting the same size for the same price.
Virgin didn't have to offer it's existing customers an automatic upgrade. They could have restricted it to new customers and upgrading customers only, and when there are complaints like this I sometimes wish they had as it would be less complicated.
