Yep you're absolutely right, my bad. I had to read up and it turns out that it's a HDCP legal thing that recorders are only allowed to output HDMI and not have HDMI inputs. Just shows me that I shouldn't get myself involved in conversations where the breadth of my knowledge isn't up to it!
