it makes me cringe when they say that. It doesn't need to settle, it either works or it doesnt. If he has put it in modem mode go to 192.168.100.1 and log in to the shub. I dont know which tab it is under now but look at connection status or something and make sure you have been provisioned for the right speed. You are looking for something like:
