Actually, you can safely ignore that advice; both the manuals and also, therefore, mine as well.
I just tried it and you should type the name in
as normal; ie FIRSTNAME SURNAME; ie TOM CRUISE.
ISTR I actually had this problem when I first got my VM Tivo. I put in an name in the way the manual said to and only just found out in time (or I would have missed something she was in) that it was wrong
