It probably depends a lot on when the downloading is done. A while back on 50Mbps the STM would take you down to 12.5Mbps but now on a doubled 50Mbps you can download at 50Mbps all the time which must have a bigger inpact on the puny pipes most areas still have - mine has 5 downstreams or 250Mbps and a single user chewing 20% of that at peak time must be bad news for the other 200+ trying to use the service.

I did one experiment to check if 15:00 - 16:00 really is STM free (it isn't) but for the most part I kick off big downloads just as I'm off to bed.
