Frankie Dettori spoke of his pride after carrying the Olympic torch at Ascot racecourse.
The hugely popular Italian, who rode all seven winners at the Berkshire track on an unforgettable day in September 1996, was taking part on the 53rd day of the torch's journey.
Former Olympic gold medal-winning heptathlete Denise Lewis brought the torch into the course, where she was greeted by a crowd of more than 10,000 people, and she handed it on to Dettori.
The jockey completed a circuit of the parade ring on former Cheltenham Festival winner Monsignor, who was on loan from the charity HEROS (Homing Ex-Racehorses Organisation Scheme).

MOORE READY TO ROCK AT NEWMARKET.

Quote:
Ryan Moore has been booked by James Fanshawe to ride Group One-winning sprinter Society Rock in Saturday's Darley July Cup at Newmarket.
The leading fancy was beaten just half a length on his return to action in the Duke Of York Stakes, and was then an unlucky fifth under Johnny Murtagh behind Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, a race he had won 12 months earlier.
Moore has never ridden the horse before and is an unusual booking for the Newmarket trainer, who has only used him 10 times in the last five seasons.
