The only reason I knew it was common was by the number of complaints in the VM community forum when I was spending a bit of time there getting my own connection issues sorted out.

I think there are VM staffers on installs and also contractors. One of the VM blokes here may spill the beans if their non-disclosure doesn't prevent it.

Where VM could end up in trouble is if one on the underrated PSUs catches fire - you said yours was running very hot - if that caused a house fire and the cause was pinpointed.....
