Rangers started spending beyond their means when Murray took over in the late 80s. Rangers went deeper and deeper into debt from that moment on. It was only the benevolence of the establishment bank, The Bank of Scotland, that allowed Moonbeams to continue his ego trip.

The usual balances, e.g. concerned directors or investigative journalism, remained absent until Hugh Adams stuck his head above the parapet 10 years ago.
