Re: So Long Tivo - Back to Sky - Close but no cigar!
I've just bailed on TiVo too, the 75% off Sky World offer in combination with VM's seeming inability to capitalise on TiVo's potential pushed me over the edge.
TiVo could be awesome but the choice of Flash for a UI has probably set them back years, it seems even with both CPU cores enabled it just can't get past sauntering pace.
The UI's structure is also still extremely silly in places with a multitude of clicks and confirmations required to carry out simple tasks, this far after launch this really shouldn't be the case.
These issues almost certainly boil down the TiVo Inc. themselves with developers working slowly and VM not having as much clout in the relationship as they should. I wish them the best with it and it was an interesting experiment but overall, I was underwhelmed.
I will definitely miss 3 tuners and Wishlists but the addition of the Sky Movies package, SkyGo on the 360 upstairs, AnyTime+ and the £16 /month reduction in my services bill mean I won't be losing any sleep over it.
Virgin have at least shown why competition is so important because Sky seem to be planning a lot in the OnDemand and "portable device app" fields which I don't think they would be so keen on if Virgin hadn't gone there first (but I have to slate Virgin at this point for their shambolic strategy so far with the iPad app - boo!)
Anyway, short version: interesting experiment but bored now. Development too slow, could do better, might have another look in a year.
