There are some excellent STBs out there that are running advanced features via user modifications. A member on AVForum called Raydon has been developing modifications for the Humax Foxsat. That STB can now offer shared planner access, advanced multimedia streaming and archiving of SD and HD material for viewing on external devices.
This is great, but for me, and I suspect many others, we want a PVR, with good functionality, that is manufacturer implemented. That way, we have someone to contact/complain to, if that functionality doesn't work properly.
