Sky 1 brings back The Kumars

Sky 1 is bringing back spoof chat show The Kumars, with a co-production between Avatar and Hat Trick Productions planned for transmission this Autumn.

The Kumars has been commissioned by Sky’s head of Comedy Lucy Lumsden, marking a return to British screens following a six year absence. The show ran on BBC Two for seven series between 2001 and 2006.

The new series will be written by Sanjeev Bhaskar with Bert Tyler Moore, George Jeffrie and Suk Pannu, Bhaskar resumes the role of Sanjeev Kumar alongside Meera Syal (Gran/Ummi), Vincent Ebrahim (Dad/Ashwin Kumar) and Indira Joshi (Mum/Madhuri Kumar).

"Now TV on track for launch in first half of calendar 2012, widening the availability of Sky content on broadband-connected devices," confirmed Sky.
Chief executive Jeremy Darroch pointed to the growth in customers taking bundles, broadband, telephone line and television.
