No, the TiVo does not need the Superhub to work. The engineers will run a cable from the interior entry point to the where the TiVo will be going.

When/If VM introduce Multiroom Streaming, they will release details about how the devices will be connected. But as you only have 1 TiVo currently, this won't matter to you for now.

I have a TiVo both upstairs and downstairs and both are connected by ethernet cable from one into my Superhub and then a Wireless Repeater Bridge upstairs is connected by ethernet cable to the other one.
