Fans of The Social Network and The West Wing rejoice! Aaron Sorkin is returning to his rightful place - television - and his latest offering looks to be every bit as good as his previous work. The Newsroom follows Jeff Daniels as an anchor who suffers some form of Network-esque breakdown in full view of the national media, as he and his news team attempt to repair their reputation. Daniels leads an ensemble cast including Dev Patel, Emily Mortimer and Jane Fonda, and as anyone who saw The West Wing and the much-underrated Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip will attest, Sorkin writes best when he writes for ensemble. Expect walk-and-talks, fast dialogue and an unrealistically high level of conversation when this airs in the summer - and as it’s on HBO, swearing is allowed, meaning Sorkin’s script will be even more entertaining. Sky Atlantic have got the rights in the UK, and it should broadcast not long after the US air date of June 24th.
