David Cameron and Barack Obama have described the "unique and essential" relationship between the US and UK ahead of a visit by the prime minister to Washington.

I feel a US election coming on.....
Thus far Obama's shown precious little interest in the UK, apart from seeing our troops shot at next to his that is. No doubt DC will enjoy his trip on Air Force One, the banquet at the White House and game of basketball but does anyone really believe this is anything more than just a bit of political "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours?" I expect the quid pro quo will be a nice glossy visit to the UK by Obama and his massive entourage of special agents soon after the presidential election (if he wins of course) to cement this most 'special relationship'.

Thereafter it'll be back to normal and the UK will be about as special and unique as a pair of fake boobs on a Californian beach.....
