KAUTO STAR has been confirmed an intended runner in Friday's Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup after producing an "awesome" performance in a key schooling session on Monday morning.

The two-time Gold Cup hero had been described as only "50:50" to return to Cheltenham after sustaining a "pretty awful fall" when jumping a fence at trainer Paul Nicholls' Ditcheat yard last month.

Doubts surrounding his participation eased considerably when the 12-year-old pleased Nicholls and jockey Ruby Walsh in a Wincanton gallop last Friday and any remaining doubts disappeared on Monday.
