Phil Taylor hit a nine-dart finish as he battled back from 4-1 down to defeat Kevin Painter in the second week of the Premier League season.

The Power lit up the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre by landing treble 20, treble 17 and then double 18 to check out 147 in the 10th leg.

The 15-time world champion's ninth televised nine-darter levelled matters at five apiece and sent the already raucous crowd into a frenzy. Even Painter applauded another moment of magic from his opponent, who quickly went on to wrap up an 8-5 triumph that briefly put him top of the table.

But just as he had done in his draw against Adrian Lewis on opening night, Taylor was forced to come from behind to get anything out of the match.

Lewis - who had let slip a 5-0 lead against Taylor a week ago - failed to cling on to a commanding advantage again, this time allowing Raymond van Barneveld to battle back for a point

It was Simon Whitlock who ended the night on top of the pile after an 8-4 victory over a below-par James Wade, who missed his first 13 attempts at a double, saw him move above Taylor.

There was also a home victory to celebrate as Gary Anderson delighted the Scottish crowd with a comfortable 8-2 result against Andy Hamilton
