I used to have the WRT54G when I was 20mbit dude and had to say goodbye when I moved up to 50mbit a couple of years ago, I think it maxed out for me at something like 25mbit. At the time I got the wrt150N which handled 50mbit no probs so you could try getting something like that second hand or in terms of future proofing you could probably do with a more up to date router with gigabit ports. I had to replace my 150N with a new one just before Christmas when I moved up to 100mbit. I have got the E3000 atm and it really is good. Interface wise it looks just the same as the wrt54g but with some more up to date options like supporting the latest wireless encryption standards and stuff like that. It is everything you had before but better and faster. Some people dont see the point of dual band but in my house it has gone down a treat with excellent signal strength. If it is something you would consider you defo want to be looking at the E3000 or 3200, otherwise the 2000 will be fine.
Stay with linksys, you know they are great, and only use the shub in modem mode.
