IT isn’t just Poppy Day which is celebrating its 90th birthday today... so is Dorothy Ellis.

Remarkably, Dorothy, who first drew breath three years after the end of the First World War, grew up to marry a hero survivor of that awful conflict.

Her future husband, Wilfred Ellis, was shot, gassed and left for dead in the space of five hellish months in 1918.

He somehow returned home in one piece and, on November 11, 1921, Dorothy was born, on the very same day the Royal British Legion launched its first Remembrance campaign.
