HP NC4400 Jumpy mousepointer touchpad?

I have a HP NC4400 Laptop and I've noticed that if it's running on mains power the trackpad often becomes "jumpy" where it will refuse to accurately track my finger movements.

Infact I can hold my finger perfectly still on the trackpad and the pointer will jump about the screen all over the place making it impossible to actually use the trackpad with any accuracy.

It's fine when the laptop is on my Lap, or if it's running on battery.

I also remember encountering this problem on another HP NC laptop I used to have (15.6" C2D, was a company laptop so had to return that one).

I suspect it has something to do with the PSU which isn't an official HP one but i'm not sure why it causes it to happen.

I never had the official PSU to compare with as I bought this machine off ebay a few months ago (Wanted a smallish machine to throw in my bag that had more grunt than a netbook)
