I had noticed the "clear" button seemed to be quite multi-functional depending on what menu you were in - which kind of makes it even more baffling that they would tuck it away in the bottom corner. But still, that's handy to know.
And yep, Hugh, I've set all my series links to New Episodes Only, Keep All Shows, Keep Until I Delete, Start 1 Minute Early and 4 minutes overrun. The buffering has worked fine, with no failed recordings or missed endings so far.
But the Tivo box does behave like a needy anti-virus programme sometimes, asking you if you want to trim the buffer of one programme to allow it to record another programme which airs at a similar time. That should be default surely.
