Hi Rob, thanks for your assistance. I've not actually tried connecting both the laptops with ethernet cables but I will give this a go later today and come back to you. What I cannot really understand is some guides suggest you needing a modem and a router but I thought that the Router removed the need for having more hardware... most likely I'm wrong!!
