I think that's the page I read at the time I was porting. As I'm currently on an EDGE only connection I won't open the link to confirm this but I'm pretty sure there was some wriggle room allowed should the recipient organisation have problems incorporating the number - no idea why but presumably routing issues if the number doesn't fit with the BT scheme. I've noticed that BT often use the first portion of the 6 digit number for a particular area as well as the STD code so maybe it's something to do with that. Anyway as I mentioned I have seen posts in the past where people say they have been told by BT that they can't accept the port.
