There's a fibre connection to ethernet switch next to the machine controlling the electric distribution board.

Or in other words the kettle is connected to something that is connected to something else that is connected to a fibre. So it's as much fibre as your VM connection is connected to something that is connected to something else that is connected to a fibre.
