Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

From DS, talks have not broken down just a "disagreement" still which is nothing new.

Virgin Media still far away from Sky Atlantic carriage deal

Virgin Media subscribers are facing a long wait before they can get access to Sky's blockbuster entertainment channel Sky Atlantic, as the two firms are still in disagreement over the carriage price negotiations.

Despite Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett describing Sky Atlantic as a "great product", the cable operator has so far failed to reach a carriage deal for the channel, with Virgin accusing Sky of demanding an "unrealistic" price.

However, it is understood that the key issue dividing Sky and Virgin Media is price, with the possible underlying issue that Sky is thought to be keen to retain Sky Atlantic as an exclusive part of its own pay-TV offer.

After the channel's launch in February, Sky chief operating officer Mike Darcey claimed that Virgin was providing an obstacle for any carriage deal for Sky Atlantic, largely because the firm wanted the channel "on the cheap".

However, Virgin Media hit back against criticism that Sky Atlantic was not available to its 4m cable TV customers, claiming that Sky was demanding an "unrealistic" price for carriage of the channel.

Sky Atlantic has aired a string of hit shows, including Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and Treme, but Virgin Media is thought to see the viewing figures as relatively low. It is also understood that there has been modest demand from Virgin Media customers about getting access to the channel.

Those are some of the key points, full story here
