To be honest Wenger was in a no win situation as soon as they decided to leave it this late. There is nothing that suggests panic in the players chosen, they have clearly been scouted for some time and they address specific weaknesses that critics have been pointing out all season. Mertesacker is
exactly the player pundits have said Arsenal needed, now they are changing the narrative to dam Wenger for getting a 'cheap' player who isn't fast.

Don't think we need another center back. We now have Mertesacker, Vermaelen and Koscielny to choose from with Djourou as 4th choice center back. We have two full backs and cover for those full backs. I think that's enough depth in defence now.
We're probably getting another midfielder, although not sure we need another winger. We need a creative playmaker and maybe a holding defender.
