Re: Should VM have charged for basic HD.
I don't understand how any TV provider can get away with charging for HD. First you have to pay a monthly subscription to access channels in standard definition. Then you have to pay a further monthly subscription on top of this to access the exact same channel, showing the exact same content, but with a clearer picture and possibly better sound quality?
Once you have access to a HD version of a channel it's highly unlikely you'll go back to watching the standard definition version of the channel ever again. How SKY have managed to convince their customers to pay for both the SD and HD versions of channels, when they'll probably only ever watch the HD version is a total mystery to me. SKY are forcing their customers to pay for SD channels they won't watch. SKY are even forcing Virgin customers to pay for SD channels they won't watch with the £7.00 per month HD charge.
I think it's once of the biggest cons in pay TV at the moment. The only reason I have SKY Sports and SKY Movies in HD is I'm on a good deal with my current VIP50 package.
