Could be a damaged cable. Make sure where the network cable is connected at both ends there is are lights on. Can't remember if the hub has lights on its network ports. Unplug one end and see if the computer complains about a network cable being unplugged.

One superhub specific thing I can think of is that the desktop is trying to use an ip address in the 192.168.1.x range, but the superhub uses the 192.168.0.x range.

If you open the network adapter properties: If you have Vista/7 search on the start menu for network, open the network and sharing centre, click change adapter settings, double click the network adapter, click properties. Then double click the IP4 or TCP/IPv4 line and click the obtain an IP address automatically.
