Their closure led to what I think is my favourite The Register headline (although the article sadly does not appear to be in their archive, so I cannot provide a link). "Currant Bun goes stale, gets thrown in bin".

Actually, I'd forgotten about that. I did dial in to work for a couple of weeks before realising that the 14.4K connection that work offered was a little slower than the 28.8 offered by most ISPs at the time..
