When the sky basics dispute started virgin had really only just re-branded muppetman11,so what i suspect was happening was sky was trying to spoil the launch party by offering a paltry amount for vm branded channels branding them at the time "worthless" as they did,and after the carriage deal ran out withdrawing their own basics from virgin media customers and asking top dollar for them.
The sky basics dispute was sorted out eventually alledegly when skys advertisers asked for a reduction in fees to balance the decreased viewership of the channels and sky eventually came back to the table with a much more realistic carriage agreement which was duly signed.
