I've just finished reading Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine.

Nothing in it is all that surprising, given capitalists' attitudes today, but believe me, it's one hell of an eye-opener. It certainly gives one a new perspective on the Iraq war, 9/11, the "War on Terror", Katrina and other crises. I wonder if the World Bank, the US Treasury and/or the International Monetary Fund are going to try shock therapy in Japan, and what'll happen if they do. Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes in the countries where it was applied but the people have since recovered from the shock. But I doubt it.
