"Just" designing (then implementing and testing) new menus is a huge job. It
could have been done but would have delayed release for many months. VM decided (sensibly IMO) to go with what was available. This gives you the choice of taking TiVo with the mix of menus now, or waiting for them to all be converted to HD.
