If Tivo hadn't been modified it in any way from the US version, then your 'choice' argument holds up; tivo or V+. But they did. And to say Tivo does everything better than V+ is looking at tivo with blinkered vision IMHO.
The best of Tivo US combined with the best of V+ was the way to go IMHO.
From my perspective, the one feture that V+ trounced Tivo on, is padding; Tivo really needs to adopt the V+ method.
Also picture quality, but that is probably a Cisco box issue.

l am glad we agree on this as we have not aways agreed on everything before but this is why l enjoy this forum as everybody can have their views and opinions on things.
