Satellite providers have to do very little as the channel's uplinked to satellite by ESPN so they just pay a fee and add it to their packages. Cable providers have to get hold of the signal and provide a space for it on one of their muxes, all of which costs extra money on top of whatever ESPN want for the channel. Unless more providers start to carry the channel I think ESPN will have to re-think how much they want for it.

ESPNA HD is an incredibly niche channel with a miniscule weekly reach, perfect for a stand alone subscription package but not perfect to be included in a package like XL and certainly not when they don't charge extra for HD.
I doubt it's that high up on VM's 'HD shopping spree' list but we'll see.

Sky of course put their prices up, usually in September. And Sky did close some of the ex-VMtv channels but since their September price rise they have launched Nickleodeon HD, Disney XD HD, Eden HD, ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD, ITV4 HD and Sky Atlantic HD. Of course they can do this because of their pricing structure, nevertheless value has been added since their price rise.
As far as I recall no pay channels have been added to XL for over 6 months but i'm happy to be corrected on that. Let's see what happens now VM's prices have increased.
