That narrows it down to either a line problem (physical) or an AOL problem (network). the problem will be getting AOL to admit there is an issue. When I called them on behalf of a family member with a very similar issue they refused to accept there was a problem and blamed everything on BT.

Give them a call and see how it goes. Otherwise I would start looking for another DSL provider if you cant get cable.
