Oh I know that - the App Store is an extension of Apple's corporate brand. But Apple is suffering today because it allowed the app in the first place, which tells all those who object that, in and of itself, Apple didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
Apple is a hostage to fortune because it is
known to pre-moderate everything. Therefore everything it allows onto the store has implicit approval and association with the brand.
What I find slightly depressing in all this is not Apple's behaviour, but the intolerant behaviour of the objectors, who have actively moved to suppress the expression of a world view and a way of living that they disagree with. After years of campaigning against that sort of suppression in their own lives you would have thought they would have known better.
But then I've never believed that one group of people persecuting another group of people for what they believe is the exclusive preserve of religion, so while it's depressing, it's not surprising.
