Probably because for the same reason that you can't compare Freeview to Sky either.
Branson wasn't comparing VM's new TiVo service to Freeview, he was comparing it to VM's thorn in their side, Sky.
You can record
three programs simultaneously whilst watching a recorded program on
one TiVo box, that alone is something that neither Freeview or Sky can do, but that is not all the box can do.
