Well there's that too. I'm in a fairly uncongested area and even then still get 20-40% less throughput on 2.4G. Still, that's on un-tweaked consumer gear.
I'm curious what they used in the IEEE lab tests though, as the Cisco 1142's we have at work actually perform considerably slower than my D-Link consumer router at home. I suppose enterprise kit is tuned more for reliability, but they haven't proven to be particularly reliable either
