Few teething problems with tivo's so far on first installs...as said in an earlier post of mine, 23minutes for box download! bit ridiculous...i use this time to run out and do cab tagging, toby checks and other service checks or generally get some fresh air...256 QAM compared to the 64 QAM on older boxes...where do i start....hmmmmm...lamens terms...3 HD Channels can fit onto the one QAM...but just because the 3 channels can fit into one, does not mean it is a good idea...the more the channels(HD) in one qam...the lesser the quality. So...basics are basics...Tivo DOES and SHOULD be set up to use 256 QAM in order for future services (even more HD CHANNELS) to be pumped down from head end to a fibre node near you, shocked down in little electric signals (RF) to an even smaller DP(Distribution Point) or Surface Box(Pit)...then down another little cable to your home...this is an ideal situation...buttt and i say BIG BUTT..... :P
It should be set at 256 QAM for future reference...

Also quick note for other posters...you should be checking outside at your little box attached to your home entry point (ETB/OMNI)...old style fittings (Blue skinned/Gold Skinned)...they should be silver with a black seal 3/4 of way down...seems to be a few problems with frequency roll off causing channels to go missing with the TIVO for which VM Cust Services blame on the box being faulty for which they are not...its the fittings that need renewed...so make sure your service tech or install engineer changes these...also ask him to make sure none of your cabling is HONEYCOMB!!! Channels dissapear randomly...seems to be an ever growing trend up here in scotland for engineers to become lazy and use existing cabling hmmmmmmmmm :/
